WHAT CLIENTS ARE SAYING
COMMON QUESTIONS
What areas does Birds of a Feather serve in the Kansas City region?
Birds of a Feather is based in Kearney, MO and serves homeowners and professionals across the Kansas City Northland. The service area includes Kearney, Liberty, Smithville, Platte City, Lathrop, Lawson, Parkville, Kansas City, and Gladstone. What is the difference between cabinet refacing and full cabinet replacement?
Cabinet refacing involves updating the exterior surfaces of your existing cabinet boxes, such as the doors, drawer fronts, and visible frames, while keeping the underlying structure in place. Full cabinet replacement means removing everything and installing entirely new cabinetry, which also allows for layout changes. Refacing is a good fit when the existing layout works well and the goal is a fresh, updated appearance. Full replacement makes more sense when the layout needs to change or the cabinet boxes themselves are in poor condition. Birds of a Feather offers both options as part of their kitchen remodeling services. Are color consultations included with interior painting projects?
Yes. Color consultations are included with interior painting services. Jennifer Schmidt brings a designer's perspective to help clients work through color choices for walls, ceilings, trim, and cabinetry. The team works with high-end paint lines including Benjamin Moore's Natural Linen and Magnolia's Cut Cedar to help you find a palette that feels cohesive and right for your space. What types of exterior painting projects does the company take on?
Birds of a Feather offers exterior painting for residential structures including sheds, two-story homes, reverse ranches, and split-entry homes. Work is performed on structures up to approximately 30 feet in height. The company does not currently take on barns or heavy agricultural outbuildings as part of its exterior painting services. Is Birds of a Feather a woman-owned business?
Yes. Birds of a Feather Home Concepts and Design is a woman-owned business. Jennifer Schmidt serves as President, CEO, and Lead Designer. The company is also family-operated, with Jennifer's husband Roger leading remodeling and painting operations and their four children involved in the business. The woman-owned status is a genuine part of the company's identity and reflects the design-led, relationship-focused approach Jennifer brings to every project. How did Birds of a Feather get its name?
The name is a tribute to Jennifer Schmidt's late father. His favorite saying was "birds of a feather flock together," and the company name was chosen to honor his memory and the values he represented. That same spirit of togetherness carries through in how the team works with clients, treating each homeowner as part of the flock rather than just another project.Who typically hires Birds of a Feather for remodeling and painting work?
The majority of clients are homeowners looking for high-end kitchen transformations or professional interior painting. Real estate agents also work with the team to prepare properties for listing, using kitchen updates and fresh paint to increase a home's appeal and value. Builders represent a smaller portion of the client base, bringing Birds of a Feather in as a trusted subcontractor for high-end finishes on new or renovated residential projects. What services has Birds of a Feather stopped offering?
As part of a strategic focus on its core services, Birds of a Feather no longer offers deck and fence staining, wallpaper removal and installation, stand-alone interior design consultations, furniture upholstery, or organization services. The team is now focused on kitchen remodeling, cabinetry work, and interior and exterior painting for residential clients across the Northland.
